A Lewis structure is a skeletal structure with all the elements and non-bonding electrons shown. Two electrons indicate one electron pair.
The valance shell electronic configuration of C. N and H are [He]2s22p? [He]2s 2p and 1s? respectively. The valance electrons are shown below in the Lewis structure
H
HC..NH
HH
In the above structure, H is having 1 electron each, carbon is having 4 electrons and nitrogen is having 5 electrons. Three hydrogen atoms are sharing its single electrons with three carbon electrons and the fourth electron at carbon is sharing its electron with one electron of nitrogen. The nitrogen atom is now left with 4 electrons. Two hydrogen atoms each having one electron are sharing two electrons of nitrogen and the two electrons left are non-bonding electrons.
